That feeling is change?

At the end of one of my favorite workout DVD's (Les Mills Combat), the instructor says, "you might wake up tomorrow and feel like [makes shocked face]. That's okay. Embrace that feeling. That feeling is change."

I'm feeling the change today, baby. Last night I ended up doing a stretching/kettle bell workout which involved some squats and swings. Haven't done that since early in my pregnancy and my legs are feeling it!  Fortunately, it seems to be the good kind of sore - we'll have to see what tomorrow brings. I was afraid that the moves I incorporated including back and abs might backfire, but my back and pelvis feel really good today, so I'm hoping I'm on the right track to making all my various bits happy once more.

Speaking of happy bits - my toes match my socks today. No one knows but me (and anyone who happens upon my blog and/or instagram), but it makes me happy. Yes, I'm a nerd. [Grrr... I'll have to add the picture in later. My phone is being stubborn.]

This dog had to have been sound asleep..

My alarm went off at 4:15 this morning and I almost went back to bed because the living room (where I was planning to do a workout DVD) had a sleeping baby in it. But I decided to head to the basement and work on fixing the belt of my treadmill instead. I got it!!! Well, almost. There is a spot along the edge that's frayed that needs some duct tape, but I got the belt un-folded and cranked to the proper tension. I think this little spot is what caught and caused the belt to fold over to begin with. When in doubt, duct tape!

I was ready for work early enough that I got to feed and change little man and sneak in a snuggle before I had to leave. Is there anything better than your baby waking up, slowly blinking, and then breaking into a huge smile as he sees you? No sir, there is not.

[I also have a picture of S that's trapped on my phone. I'll add this evening. Sorry!]

Teething seems to be in full force around our house. Last night S would cry because he was hungry, but gnaw at the bottle and start wailing again. We used some Hyland's Teething Tablets and they were amazing! Within about a minute, he calmed down and fell asleep for the rest of the night. Whew! Teething baby is just about enough to break your heart... or drive you crazy, depending on how long they've been crying.

Apparently basset hound tail can be used as a teething aid in a pinch, too. S was laying on his back, kicking and wiggling, and Lola plopped down next to him. He seemed to think this was pretty cool and proceeded to grab her tail and give it a gnaw. Cody said she looked at him and then put her head back down and fell asleep. So far, she's been an amazing furry sister. I can't wait until he's old enough to scoot after her. She's going to love it!

I'll leave with one last random thought: my calorie deficit yesterday was 1376 - woo hoo!

Meme's For Monday

Happy Monday! You know when you get to work on Monday and everyone asks how your weekend was? My response is usually "awesome" because weekend is always better than not weekend, right? But then people ask me what I did and I can't for the life of me remember doing anything interesting, and somehow "I watched a lot of Netflix and hung out with my family...oh! and made a lot of pancakes" doesn't sound that exciting. I guess one person's boring is another person's best weekend ever.

General weekend highlights:
*Helped a friend pack.
*Had a truly amazing taco omelette (how have I not thought of this?!).
*Gave myself a pedicure with bright green polish...then did the same to Cody - polish and all. He's always joked that he would let me paint his toenails, so I did. It is kind of hilarious to see polish on his big, manly feet.
*Chocolate chip pancakes.
*Supergirl on Netflix.
*Watching S reach for Cody's Cherry Coke with arms outstretched and mouth open. I guess he figured a bottle is a bottle - or Coke is REALLY good at making labels appealing to all ages.
*Lots of family snuggle time. I try to soak it in on the weekends to last through the work week.

Moving on to weight loss.
Monday weigh-in: 311.8.
This is down one pound from last week, which I was a little bummed about until I remembered that my weigh in was actually on Thursday - so I guess that's not too bad. Progress is progress. I will keep chugging away. My goal this week is to write down everything - even on the weekend. I almost always get a bit lazy with this on the weekends and just keep a tally in my head.

I am shooting for a weekly calorie deficit of 7000 calories, or roughly 1000 a day. At my current weight, that would be 1687 calories if I don't workout and probably closer to 2000 if I do. Piece of cake No problem, right? I am planning a post for later in the week to talk about calculating base metabolic rate (BMR) for calorie intake. Did I mention I'm a bit of a numbers nerd?

Running/fitness report: Last week was rough. I did manage a good workout on Friday and was fairly active Saturday and Sunday cleaning and moving branches. The downside to that was that my hips and pelvis have been acting up again. I am going to look up some ab/back exercises that I can do daily to work on strengthening things up a bit. If that doesn't work - I may have to go to the doctor.

Here's my plan for this week:
Monday: 3 miles total walk at work. T25 evening workout.
Tuesday: 30 minute AM treadmill workout. 3 miles at work.
Wednesday: 30 minute AM workout DVD. 3 miles at work.
Thursday: 45 minute AM treadmill workout. 3 miles at work. Evening strength training.
Friday: AM yoga.
Saturday: Walk with family.
Sunday: Off

My Morning in Pictures

My plan for the day was to get up at 7:00, do a 30-45ish minute workout, then have time to shower and pack the diaper back before my sister stopped by at about 8:30. I'm sure parents reading are laughing to themselves at my optimism.

I did manage to get up at 7:00, but Cody was really tired, so plans changed a bit and I had the little one. I fed him and changed him and then gathered a blanket and some toys to set him up with on the floor by the treadmill...then I killed a spider and saw an earwig, so I decided maybe the swing would be better...and that I really need to get downstairs and clean.

Aaannnyway... I got S set up:

View of little dude from treadmill...

and was soooo excited to be back with my treadmill:
Reunited with Miles...awwww...

I started the belt and heard a thunking again. Nooo!!! But I soon realized that it was caused by the extra cover that goes on top of the motor. Since it's purely aesthetic, I pulled it off and was ready to hop back on, but somehow, the edge of the belt got turned as soon as I started it up again.

Sigh. At least this is fixable, but it was more than I had time for, so I gathered up S and all of his stuff and shuffled back upstairs, got him settled on the ottoman, moved it next to the TV, and popped in an exercise DVD.

Happy baby pose.

Les Mills Combat for the win.
Fortunately, S thinks watching me do a mixed martial arts workout is hilarious. Side note: I got my black belt in Tae Kwon Do when I was seventeen, so next to running, martial arts is my favorite workout.

Once I was sweaty and feeling muscles I forgot I had, I got little man ready to spend the day at Auntie's house while I went to visit a friend and help her pack. I did manage to break out the seasonal socks to match my shirt - so the day was a success from the start.

The rest of the day was spent hanging out with my friend - who was nice enough to take me out to breakfast and lunch, packing, and then the pleasant hour and a half drive home talking to myself like a crazy person. I found out my mom does this same thing, which makes me feel a little better. If I know I'm talking to myself, that's not weird, right?

I got home just in time for some quality baby snuggling before he fell asleep. All in all, it was a good day, Tater.
